Windows® 7 try to upgrade option program
Microsoft’s really want you to forget about Vista and move right on to Windows 7. And who can blame them? Vista was a train wreck. No one who knows what they’re doing runs Vista, not even Microsoft . Windows 7, on the other hand, is a worthwhile desktop operating system. There’s only one little problem — there’s no easy way(RRESITDM) to get from XP to 7.
Actually, that’s not a small problem at all. According to Net Applications‘, in August 2009, 71.7% of all desktops were running XP, compared to a mere 18.8% running Vista.
That means that a majority of Windows users will have to “try” to migrate from XP to 7.
I use the word “migrate” and “try” deliberately instead of “update” or “upgrade” because this will be a migration. If you are among the minority using Vista, you can upgrade to 7 without any problem, so long as the move is between equivalent versions like Vista Home Premium and Windows 7 Home Premium — or if you’re jumping up, for example, to Windows 7 Ultimate.
I only wish that were the case for XP computer users . The only way you can get from XP to Windows 7 is to do a clean install. Period. End of statement.
What’s involved with a clean install, you ask? It means you erase every last program and file on your hard disk during the “upgrade.” ” i mean everything ”
Windows® 7 Upgrade Option Program enables licensed end users of selected Microsoft Windows Vista® operating system editions to obtain an upgrade license to the appropriate Windows 7 edition if the end user meets program qualifications.
If you received a Microsoft Offer Form as pictured here when you purchased your qualifying Windows Vista computer, you can order your upgrade on this Website at no additional cost to you.
Upgrades for qualifying orders will be shipped on DVD, beginning on the Windows 7 general availability date of 22 October 2009.

Play voicemails right from Gmail
I spend a lot of time in Gmail and love how Google Voice email notifications let me see voicemails in my email inbox. I can scan the transcript quickly, and when I want to hear the voicemail, it is just a click away on my computer.
However, something always seemed a little off when I clicked “Play message” and it opened up a new browser window. Wouldn’t it be better if the voicemail just played in the email? Now that is possible in Gmail. You have to turn on the Google Voice player in the Gmail Labs tab under Settings, but after that you are good to go. When voicemails come in, click on the play button, and you can listen to the whole message, adjust volume and everything right inside the Gmail message.

Google releases Chrome 3
Google has released its third major revision of Chrome. The updated browser boasts a 150% (25% over its most recent stable release) increase in javascript performance since the launch of version 1.
Other new features include a redesigned “new tab” page, an improved omnibox, themes capability, and HTML5 features.
Since Google has released Chrome it has taken a 2.8% market share. It is expected that the market share will continue to grow as more people become aware of the browser. Also, Google has been marketing its browser heavily to users who also use other Google products such as Gmail or Google search.
The browser marketplace is packed with heavy hitters from Microsoft, Apple, and Google. All of which are backed by massive corporations with seemingly unlimited resources. Other well known browsers that also provide serious competition to Chrome are Firefox and Opera.

Upgrading to Windows 7? (21 hours!!!)
according to Microsoft, your own just might. The boys and girls in Redmond set out with a goal of seeing the Vista to Windows 7 upgrade accomplished around five percent faster than an upgrade to Vista, and while it seems that they succeeded, the staggeringly wide range in install times has us a wee bit concerned. A variety of testing situations were put in place, and nearly every profile was tested on low-, mid- and high-end hardware. A clean install of Windows 7 on mid-to-high-end hardware took just a half-hour, but a 32-bit upgrade on a mid-range machine with 650GB of data and 40 applications took an astounding 1,220 minutes, or just under 21 hours. The wild part here is that it’s not all that uncommon for a power user / all-around nerd to have a half-terabyte of information and two score programs, and in anticipation of one install actually taking over a day.

New Windows 7 ad
Microsoft chose Europe’s The Final Countdown as the theme tune for the advert and also included Kylie from an earlier Windows ad. The music choice could be unintentional or highly ironic but it shows the company is excited about the countdown to the Windows 7 launch. The ad doesn’t focus on any specific Windows 7 features but highlights some select quotes from the good press surrounding the latest OS. Kylie is seen creating a a Windows Live Movie Maker show from the quotes.

Google Stretches Its Search Box
Google increased the size of its home page’s search box and typeface Wednesday, making it easier for users to see long queries.
search has always been our focus. And, starting today, you’ll notice on our homepage and on our search results pages, our search box is growing in size. Although this is a very simple idea and an even simpler change, we’re excited about it — because it symbolizes our focus on search and because it makes our clean, minimalist homepage even easier and more fun to use. The new, larger Google search box features larger text when you type so you can see your query more clearly. It also uses a larger text size for the suggestions below the search box, making it easier to select one of the possible refinements

Gmail Outage Appears to Be Fixed
Many users of Google’s free e-mail service were stranded Tuesday afternoon when they logged on to find the service no longer working.
According to research firm ComScore, the Gmail service, launched in 2004, has nearly 146 million users worldwide — so when Google admits that an issue with the service is affecting “a majority of users,” that’s a not-insignificant portion of Web users.
By Tuesday evening, the search engine company appeared to have fixed the problem as users of communications services like Twitter reported that they were able to access their e-mail again. Google’s own site, however, reported that the e-mail service was still undergoing a “disruption.”
On Google’s blog, engineering director David Besbris observed his colleagues at the search engine company were having difficulties with the service Tuesday.
“We know many of you are having trouble accessing Gmail right now,” he wrote. “We are too, and we definitely feel your pain.”
Besbris did not identify the problem, which he characterized as “minor.”
For Gmail users, it was a bumpy couple of days. On a Web page where Google tracks the status of its services, the company said that “some users” were having difficulty logging on Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning.
On Tuesday afternoon, the company posted another update, this time saying that “a majority of users” were experiencing problems with the service. The company alternately described the problem as an “outage” and a “disruption” — that latter term was the one Google used later on in the afternoon when many users reported being able to log on again.

Buy new PC / Laptop / Netbook Save Taxes in 2009 & 2010
Under the new American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, taxpayers who buy PCs for their children in 2009 and 2010 can claim those Desktops, Notebooks, and Netbooks as qualified higher education expenses.
The Act defines computer-related qualified expenses as any expense incurred for buying any computer technology and equipment, as well as Internet access and related services as long as the equipment and technology is used by the student and the student’s family during any of the years the student is enrolled at an eligible educational institution.
All of you who have college-aged kids know that tuition costs have skyrocketed – so this additional perk is a welcome benefit. This tax break is only in effect through 2010, so those who have children in college or kids ready to start school in September need to start shopping for new PCs now!
